Alpaca Low Cut Hiking and Slipper Socks |
Alpaca wool - the smart alternative ordinary wool. These are made from fiber harvested from North American grown Alpacas.
These low cut, low rise, extra plush, incredibly soft, warm socks can be used as hiking socks or alone as slippers around the house. These offer extreme comfort. We like them for fast and light hiking in our trail running shoes.
These Terry socks are the same industrial strength, and thick plush comfortable feel as our Extreme Hiking socks. The only difference is the low cut calf extension. Alpaca fibers have superior natural moisture wicking properties to ordinary sheep wool. They keep your feet comfortable and dry in both cold and warm weather.
Same great construction and yarn as our Extreme Alpaca Socks but knit to stop just above the ankle for inside wear or you just prefer low rise thick sock.
Note that the sizes are SOCK Sizes, not shoe sizes. I know - it is an oddity of the garment industry but you can use the chart below to convert before ordering. The socks have good elasticity so will stretch to fit, but they also will shrink if you forget and throw them in the dryer.

Why does Alpaca product have much less "Itch" or "prickle factor" than sheeps wool ? One of the
contributing "itch" factors of any fiber are the length and angle of the scales along the fiber shaft. The scales from sheep's wool typically stick out 0.8 micron, whereas alpaca scales are closer to 0.2 micron.
Alpaca is a rare specialty fiber. It is stronger than mohair, finer than many cashmeres, warmer than goose down, and breathes better than thermal knits.
Alpaca was traditionally the fiber reserved for Inca nobility. Unlike cashmere, alpaca will not pill, wrinkle, and holds its shape for many years of comfortable wear.
Alpaca is the only fine-haired fleece that comes in 22 officially-recognized natural colors. This makes alpaca wool unique among the fine fibers. Alpaca products we sell are a blend of natural colors.
Alpaca wool has other qualities. For instance, it contains no lanolin, which is often referred to as the cause of wool allergies. It is therefore hypo-allergenic and very good for people with sensitive skin.
Because alpaca wool is hollow it can absorb and move (wick) body moisture much better. So in
winter you feel warm and comfortable, and in summer - dry and fresh.
