The hats with back flaps are sometimes called a Havelock. The concept of a hat flap covering the neck was introduced by Sir Henry Havelock during the Savoy uprising in India in 1857 to protect soldiers from sunstroke during battle.
From behind - this looks much like the Back Flap Caps worn by the Foreign Legion

This versatile product is a must have for any serious adventurer.
Here are some Tips, Tricks, and Other uses:
* Wear it in reverse to shade your face for naps or siestas.
* Use it as a hand or face towel for quick clean ups on the trail
* For added cooling, dampen the shade, and wring excess water out, and wear it - to get an evaporative colling effect on your neck
* Use the included elastic and velcro to secure over a pot (see additional images above). The microfiber will act as a water pre-filter removing sediment, debris, and other filter clogging items - thus extending the life of your drinking water filter.
* For emergency survival water collection from seeps, rock depressions, tree stumps, desert tinajas, and damp areas. The microfiber flap will absorb more than its own weight in water, and is flexible enough to get into small places your cup won't reach. Water from seeps and damp areas can be collected by pressing the flap into the moisture. Then wring it out into your container, repeat. Each wring can yield over an ounce of water (see additional images above).
* Can be used as an emergency bandage or tourniquet
* Mist shade with bug repellent to deter pesky insects.
Care Instructions: Machine washable, tumble dry on low. Weighs 1.2 oz (about 40 grams)
