This Trotline System has everything you need to improve your fishing odds in critical survival situations. This kit enables deployment of25 Size 4/0 hooks across a 150 foot span, with 280lb test line. Multiple catches are likely when properly placed. The special black plastic holder/organizer lets you retrieve, store, and redeploy with no tangled lines, bulky storage buckets, or dangerous hanging hooks. Keeps the whole system organized and neat.
A trotline is basically a long fishing line with drops of leaders with baited hooks attached at measured intervals. Trotlines are flexible and can be set to cover varying depths, across a stream, along a weedbed line, anywhere you might catch fish. It can be weighted various points to fish any depth. Marker buoys or attaching at shore will help you retrieve.
This kit includes 150' of line, 25 Mustad hooks (4/0), 4' spacing, 12" drops, and 280 lb test line. It also includes an organizer system to keep the line in order between deployments.

Note: The number 4 hooks are Large, see dimensions above in the View Additional Images Link. You may want to customize this kit with some smaller hooks and leaders such as 6/0, 7/0, 8/0, 9/0, 10/0, 11/0, 12/0. Presenting a variety of baits and hook sizes will increase the diversity of presentation and vastly improve the potential for catch in a survival situation.
When you receive your trotline - it comes wrapped up on the organizer tool. As you unwind it - make mental note of the winding and position of line and hooks. It is a good idea to immediately rewind it to practice putting it away. That will enable you to make mental note of the best way to keep it organized for future transport.
Check local fishing laws before using as each state has varying laws regarding their use. They may be prohibited for use in some areas. Follow all rules for using this system. Do not use near swimming areas or in areas that may entangle other wildlife.
In prohibited areas - we recommend you keep these in your survival or bug out bag kit not in your standard fishing tackle box as mere possession may be illegal.
During a true survival situation however, all bets are off, you must improve your fishing odds beyond a single hook and line. This trotline system lets you deploy your fishing line, and frees you to perform other survival chores. Collect clean water, gather firewood, build a shelter, while the trotline catches dinner. Periodically check the line and rebait any hooks.
For best results use appropriate weights to secure the ends to the bottom. Mix with floats (empty plastic bottles work well) to mark or adjust depth. Use a variety of baits, cheese, dough, worms, local insects to increase your odds of catching fish.
