The cooling gel is build right into the sweatband of the hat to provide surround-the-head cooling performance. The oversized brim meets and exceeds dermatologist's recommended brim size, with a neck shade thrown in for added protection and cooling.

We chose this Blubandoo brand and model after field testing several brands. This outperformed all others because the vented fabric in the dome increases air flow and greatly enhances the evaporative cooling effect. Above the ventilated mesh a patch of solid fabric provides top-of-the-head sun protection. Blubandoo even ventilated the neck shade near the brim - it is this attention to detail that makes the differnce. Other brands we tested had inadequate ventilation that could sometimes keep heat in - not all cooling hats work as well as these !

These cooling crystals evolve into a gel when immersed in water. They stay hydrated and cool the wearer, due to evaporation, for several days before they dry and slowly return to their original state. No refrigeration is necessary and the hats are reusable and hand washable time and time again.

To activate your Blubandoo completely submerge it in water for approximately five minutes.

While submerging, the crystals within the channels will begin transforming into a gel. As this occurs use your hands to evenly distribute the gel throughout the cooling channels. It is important to gently massage and move the gel, as it blows up so quickly it may ooze thru the fabric or even break through the seams. If oozing occurs, simply wipe off the gel and wear as usual.

Continue soaking until your Blubandoo gel channel is hydrated to a flexible shape. Then, take it out of the water and blot it off the excess moisture. Allow the remainder of the moisture to air dry. No refrigeration is necessary.

Evaporative cooling works best with air movement. If you are walking or there is a light breeze they work great. If the air is still - take it off and wave it for a few seconds or rotate it to get cooling relief.

Do not leave in an enclosed area once hydrated. Let them get plenty of fresh air so they can breathe, evaporate, and dry out before storage. Soaked hats may mold if stored in an enclosed area.

Small/medium usually fits approximately size 7 to 7-1/4 hat size and size large/extra large usually fits approximately size 7-3/8 to 7-5/8 hat size. When dry the hats are oversized to allow for the crystals to swell. By leaving it in water a little more or a little less you affect the swelling of the gel band thus adjusting the size. We suggest you check it occasionally as you are hydrating to create a perfect fit for you.
