Why does Alpaca product have much less "Itch" or "prickle factor" than sheeps or merino wool ? One of the
contributing "itch" factors of any fiber are the length and angle of the scales along the fiber shaft. The scales from sheep's wool typically stick out 0.8 micron, whereas alpaca scales are closer to 0.2 micron.
Alpaca is a rare specialty fiber. It is stronger than mohair, finer than many cashmeres, warmer than goose down, and breathes better than thermal knits.
Alpaca was traditionally the fiber reserved for Inca nobility. Unlike cashmere, alpaca will not pill, wrinkle, and holds its shape for many years of comfortable wear.
Alpaca is the only fine-haired fleece that comes in 22 officially-recognized natural colors. This makes alpaca wool unique among the fine fibers. Alpaca products we sell are a blend of natural colors.
Alpaca wool has other qualities. For instance, it contains no lanolin, which is often referred to as the cause of wool allergies. It is therefore hypo-allergenic and very good for people with sensitive skin.
Because alpaca wool is hollow it can absorb and move (wick) body moisture much better. So in
winter you feel warm and comfortable, and in summer -- dry and fresh.
