Recent technology improvements bring us this new fabric. It is head and shoulders above older evaporative cooling technologies. Plus, the low cost makes it affordable for everyone.
RealXGear Xtreme Cooling Towel keeps you up to 20 degrees cooler than the outdoor ambient temperature. It’s like having your own air conditioner everywhere you go. Keeps you cool all day long and is reusable simply by soaking the towel in water. The cooling towel is machine washable and be used hundreds of times and comes in its own storage container.
When wet is to soft and supple to the touch with a mild spongy bounce. If completely dry it becomes stiff. To reactivate - soak it in water and it becomes soft and ready for use.
Each is individually wrapped and shipped in a plastic wrapper containing an antimicrobial moistening agent. The agent and wrapping keep it fresh and sanitary. Before first use - rinse with water and wring it out a couple times to remove the moistening agent and it is ready to cool !
RealX Sports Towel is made with durable, environmentally friendly super absorbent cloth fibers impregnated with thousands of microscopic gel beads. The cooling secret is in the gel that absorbs and retains water only to slowly release it and extend the evaporative cooling effect of the towel for hours.
It is truly revolutionary highly evaporative material. It retains water while remaining relatively dry to the touch.
When it stops cooling, simply re-wet the Real X Sports Towel in hot or cold water and wring it out. Within minutes, it’s cool again. It is ideal for swimming, football, soccer, baseball, hiking, camping, and all other outdoor activities.

Product Review: On August 14, 2011 we setup an experiment outdoors on a sunny day. Temperatures that day had reached 80, with light breezes of 2- 5 MPH. We soaked a towel and gave it a good wringing to get all excess water out. It felt cool to the touch, but not like a soaking wet towel, just slightly moist. It provided relief when used as a scarf around the neck, or pressed on the forehead, anywhere we could get skin to towel contact. We could feel it working, but we wanted to see if we could quantify the cooling effects.
To make sure there was real cooling, not just a shading effect from the suns rays, so we tested in the shade. To quantify the effects, two identical thermometers were used. The two thermometers were left in the shade on a slotted wooden bench to permit airflow, and permitted to stabilize. The air temperature registered 72 degrees on both thermometers. Winds were light at 2 - 5 MPH. One thermometer was then wrapped lightly with the towel, while the other was left uncovered nearby. We made sure that the towel was touching the thermometer bulb with just one layer and that airflow was maintained. Within 10 minutes, the thermometer with the cooling towel was registering 60 degrees while the uncooled thermometer still read 72 degrees. For two hours we monitored the temperatures. The cooling towel maintained the 12 degree advantage for 2 hours until the experiment was ended. In the end, the towel was still moist and cool and would have continued cooling. In Summary these towels performed well, goFAST staff will be testing them in more conditions soon and will add to this review. (See Additional Images button above to see side by side thermometers).
Update: Some staff have reported cutting their towels into custom shapes. One cut a circle with radial cuts (like a pizza) and uses it under a straw sun hat. Another cut strips and added velcro to make cooling wrist bands. Long strips yielded a thin headband tied in the back, or a cooling Neck scarf. Another made a "sheik like" head covering that ties in the back and creates a neck shade. We may be publishing some patterns soon.
Tip: When you are done using them, rinse clean, wring out water and fold half a couple times. Leave the folded towel to dry for a few hours. They dry into a flat, neatly folded, easy to pack, stiff towel.
