Fire Fixins Jute and Fatwood Tinder Kit. A lightweight and highly effective tinder kit using all natural materials. It consists of wax impregnated jute (rope) cord and a block of easy to burn fatwood to get your fire started fast, even after a rain or in wet conditions.
This 1 ounce total weight tinder kit does not require a separate container. It is wax impregnated so has a natural water resistance. The fatwood feels like a candle to the touch, but can be shaved into small wood curls to act as kindling. Fatwood is pine that has contains concentrated resins, but is dry (not sticky) to the touch.
This kit works to provide easy fire starts even in moist, damp or wet conditions with matches, lighters, and with Flint and Steel strikers.
To use it - simply cut off a cord or two from the bundle. Unravel the fibers in each cord to create a birds nest type tangle of the fine frayed fibers. Next use a knife or blade to shave off a few shards of fatwood into the fibers. Place the nest in the middle of your kindling twigs and ignite.
The jute fibers and wax will burn easily and spread to the fatwood. The fatwood burns hot and long so it will ignite your kindling twigs even if they are damp.
Each kit has enough tinder for at least 20 fire starts.
Tip: If using a flint and steel (ferrocerium rod) or other sparking starter - Place the tip of the rod into the nest and scrape or spark down the rod INTO the nest area. That assures the shower of sparks goes right into the tinder.
