Fistful of Fatwood(TM) fire starting tinder sticks. Natures gift for easy fire starting and survival. In some parts of the country it is also called Lightning Wood, Fat Lightning and even Ladder Wood.
Total bundle weight is a about 1/2 pound (8 ounces). Approximately 9 to 12 sticks of fatwood in each bundle. Most sticks are about 8 inches long. The perfect length for safely shaving off shards with your knife to make fine tinder, or use sticks "as is" for kindling. Each stick can be shaved multiple times to start several fires. You may saw them in half for more compact storage - but collect the saw dust - it makes great primary tinder and ignites with just a spark.

Fatwood can also be found in nature if you know where to look. Look for wind fallen or lightning struck pine trees. The roots continue to pump resin up the tree after the tree is cut or felled. Over time the sap from the tree makes resin rich scar tissue on the trees, or at the surface of the stump - which - is Fatwood.
Great for boy scouts and scout masters when teaching fire building.
