SAM Splints werre invented by Dr. Sam Scheinberg during the Vietnam War. He purportedly got the idea while playing with a foil chewing gum wrapper.
Available in different sizes it can be unrolled or unfolded and formed to the shape of the injured person's body. Once folded into a curve, it becomes rigid for splinting situations.
It can be easily cut with any scissors or shears, to make shapes suitable for most injuries.
The SAM Splint does not interfere with X-Rays, so the injury can be assessed without removing the field splint.
