Survival Water Filter Straw that Removes Viruses
Ultralight Pocket Sized Survival Water Filter Straw that Removes Bacteria and Viruses. - Rapid Pure Straw for Life / Pioneer Straw
The Pioneer Straw is very popular - these sell out every week but we get scheduled regular shipments to replenish. If it says "Out of Stock" order anyway - that gets you in line - waits are never more than 7 days.
Rapid Pure Pioneer Straw - Ultralight NASA-derived Nano Technology. Survival water filter straw for Backpack, Camp, or Emergency that removes and reduces cryptosporidium, giardia, cysts, bacteria and viruses for clean safe drinking water without chemicals.
Replaceable filter is contained in a protective 1-3/4" diameter clear plastic base that is 3" high. The 1-3/4" diameter base will fit easily into most 2" openings on sport water bottles/. The straw is a 3/8" (inside diameter) clear vinyl tube attached to the end and used to draw water up via suction. You can customize straw length by purchasing food grade tubing at any hardware store. For example you could purchase 3 feet of tubing and use this filter as a siphon filter in a bucket. How's that for versatility ? Stock product length that will ship is 8" - 9" overall and ideal for drinking from cups, wide mouth bottles, or directly from a surface water source.
Technology Behind Rapid Pure Ultraceram:
Most other filters base their claim on pore size - where smaller is better to filter increasingly small particles. The problem becomes a balance of small pore size and usability. Filters with pore size small enough to filter virues require lots of pressure to force the water through. In a straw - the pressure comes from you - you have to suck very hard through the straw to get tiny amounts of water and your cheeks hurt. On other filters they use hand pumps, pressurization schemes, or gravity and you just wait a long time to get a little water.
RapidPure UltraCeram is totally different filtration technology - while is does have small pore size, it also removes particles and virus that theoretically could flow through. RapidPure's UltraCeram is an electropositive fibrous media with high particle removal efficiency as well as high dirt holding capacity. RapidPure does not just capture contaminants that are to big to move through UltraCeram. RapidPure's UltrCeram
electropositve media attracts and retains viruses, cysts, bacteria and other particles like a magnet. If you were small enough to see the process -- you would see viruses and particles in the stream curve toward the media out of the flow. They are pulled into and retained on fibers of the media as if there was a magnetic attraction. Water has a neutral charge and is not attracted and moves through freely. UltraCeram is a totally new type of filtration technology. This is why RapidPure UltraCeram media has such high flow rates, tremendous (3rd party tested) removal rates yet is very light weight.
Complete Kit weighs 2.2 ounces with carry case. It is pocket sized and has a replaceable filter element. Easy to drink - just a 2 PSI draw through the straw - easier than drinking a soft drink with a straw !
The new nano filtration technology in these Rapid Pure drinking water filters leapfrogs the competition. Purifies water by removing bacteria, viruses, cysts and other bad stuff. This is a best in class, game changing development in recreational camp, backpack and emergency water filtration. Go ahead - check your current filter specifications, or competitive filters out there. Brand name water filters such as Katadyn, MSR, Aquamira, Playpus, Sawyer and others - reduce bacteria and cysts, but if viruses are suspected, they specifically instruct you treat filtered water with chemicals such as chlorine dioxide to make the water safe from viruses. Viruses are too small for conventional filters to get.
However, this new filter purifier technology outperforms all other recreational water filters with
documented Bacteria Removal at 99.9999 %, Virus Removal at 99.9999 %, and Cyst removal at 99.998%. Further, this new filter technology outperforms the competition with higher flow rates, longer filter life, and better affordability. Get that ? This does more for less money !
Read on as we provide supporting documentation, reports, descriptions, tips for use, even videos - to prove that this water should be in your backpack, camp, travel. and emergency disaster response kit. The UltraCeram technology employed offers submicron water filtration performance that will make water potable and safe to drink at a price anyone can afford.
How is the Rapid Pure Water Filter Made, and How can I use it?
This Rapid Pure Pioneer (also called Straw for Life) is powered by a filter contained in a protective housing. The housing connects to the replaceable filter cartridge via a double O-ring seal. The housing has a hose barb and attached straw. The UltraCeram filter media pleats are contained in a cartridge made of FDA approved materials. Untreated source water can be drawn through the straw for consumption as you would drink any beverage with a straw. No moving parts, no electricity, no pumping, no chemicals - simple as can be.
The simple, light weight design, high flow rates, and high capacity - makes this filter ideal for travel to 3rd world countries and emerging economies where water sanitation may be suspect. Also ideal for resorts, or cruise ships to prevent exposure to possible outbreaks such as Noro virus.
Ultralight backpackers and campers will appreciate the light weight. At 2 ounces it could be your lightest weight option for a truly effective backpacking filter.
Emergency Disaster Preparedness Home, School and Office use - Earthquake kits, Bug out bags, Hurricane, Tornado, Natural Disaster kits. This filter is simple, intuitive, durable, and with the virus filtration - extremely effective. No expiration date - keep in a cool, dry, dark location and the materials will last for years.
What is the useful life capacity of the Rapid Pure water filter straws ?
Rapid Pure UltraCeram media has incredible filtering capacity and long life, as the numbers below will attest. This is because of the vast surface area inside the media.
However, here is where we expose an industry dirty secret. All water filter companies perform their "useful life" testing with ..... wait for it ......ordinary tap water. That's right, when a competitor claims a 700 Litre filter capacity life - that means it is expected to clog at about 700L (185 gallons) of filtering tap water - pretty weak. While this method of rating seems unfair, there has to be a baseline to provide meaningful comparison between vendors. Also - this kinda makes you suspect of ordinary tap water doesn't it ?
In real field use - actual filter life will depend mostly on the turbidity of water. How cloudy or muddy is it ? How dense are the contaminants ? Tip: When you collect your source water, let it settle before filtering. The large particulates will sink to the bottom if left in a bucket. The water will clear out substantially and, might resemble tap water in outward appearance. Decant to another bucket or filter from top to prolong filter life.
Another field situation that can affect filter life is dissolved solids. You might think that a stream emerging from a glacier would be pure and wonderful. However, glacial melt water is full of minerals and dissolved solids infused by the grinding of the massive glacier on the rock beneath - glacial melt water will clog filters fast.
All that being said -- The Rapid Pure Filter straw has a filtering capacity of 4000 gallons. That is leaps and bounds above the competition, and the competition does not even filter out the viruses !
Further the flow rates are fast. Many water filter straws out there are had to draw water through - akin to a thick milk shake - your cheeks start to hurt. The Rapid Pure media has a 2 PSI (pounds per square inch) draw - so it is very easy to drink with. Water flows easily as it you are using an ordinary non filtration straw.
What is the technology behind the Ultraceram Rapid Pure Water filter ?
Overview: RapidPure UltraCeram is a totally different filtration technology than filters that require that contaminants encounter a small pore that prevents it from passing. UltraCeram filters do not just capture contaminants to big to pass, the UltraCeram electropositive media atracts and retains viruses, cysts, and bacteria by electrical attraction. The electropositive fibrous media has high particle removal effciency as well as 50 to 250 times greater dirt-holding capacity than competitors. RapidPure UltraCeram flters are also infused with silver. Silver is a self sanitizing agent that kills bacteria, preventing growth of captured bacteria inside the filter.
Specific Technology: With UltraCeram, even if there is a “hole” or “pore” in the media that would seem big enough to let a virus or particle pass - it does not pass. There is an electropositive + charge to the RapidPure UltraCeram media that electrically atracts and bonds to viruses, bacteria, cysts and particles. Water molecules have 10 protons and 10 electrons so as a whole are neutral and pass freely through the media. Viruses contain DNA or RNA which is negatively charged and have an outer coating consisting of proteins made of amino acids which at normal water PH -- ionize to have a slight negative charge. The (positive) charge of the UltraCeram atracts the viruses’ (negative) charge and locks them in place in the RapidPure UltraCeram media. With UltraCeram about half the atoms of the fiber are on the surface of the fiber itself. At the atomic level, unique things can occur. Based on the crystaline properties of the mineral pseudoboehmite2, AIO(OH) active fibers are 2 mm x 250 mm in size. The small size of the AIO(OH) fibers allows RapidPure technology to operate on the atomic level.
The crystal structure of the mineral pseudoboehmite, AIO(OH) - is the active ingredient in UltraCeram. The bonds holding the crystal together “relax” when exposed to water. When the bonds relax, some of the electrical energy that was used to hold the mineral structure together radiates out about 1 micron in every direction from the fibers. This positive charge is what adsorbs contaminants having a negative charge as they pass through the pores. UltraCeram has been designed so the pores are 1.75 micron in size, thus the entire pore of the RapidPure UltraCeram flter media is energized by the charge generated. Effectively this creates an atomic level force field that diverts and retains any negatively charged particles (viruses, cysts, bacteria and more) like a magnet before they can pass.
Video Reviews of the Rapid Pure Filter Technology in Action:
Below are some videos showing the filter media in action. Note that some videos may be for other Rapid pure products (bags, inline filters, straws, etc.) but they all use the same UltraCeram Filter media. The video also tests Rapid Pure products side by side with competitors Katadyn Basecamp and Platypus Gravity Works.
How to Use and Care for your Rapid Pure DIY water filter:
By following a few simple steps you can prolong the life of your filter, and assure best performance and safety from the filtered water:
Tips and Tricks for using your Rapid Pure Water Filter Straw:
* If you have a group to filter for - this straw can do it (see video near top of page). Simply replace the short straw portion with 3 or 4 foot length of 3/8" Inside Diameter vinyl food grade vinyl hose (any hardware store will have). Place the filter in a bucket of source (dirty) water on a table - place a clean bucket on a chair next to the table. Draw water through the hose as if it were a straw to start a siphon. Once the siphon flow is started let the clean water flow into the bucket on the chair. For siphon to work, clean bucket must be lower elevation than the dirty bucket. Flow rate will be about 2 Liters per minute of good, filtered, clean water.
* Keep the output area clean. Don't let the output straw get contaminated by untreated water..
* Before use - immerse straw in water and let it get wet for a minute or so. This reduces air bubbles when drawing through the straw.
* When not in use, let the filter and straw dry. A light breeze, bit of sun, or even the kitchen counter for a short time should dry it out. Never store filters wet - that could encourage algae or mold growth. Store the dry filter and straw in the included microfiber carry bag.
* Collect the best source water possible. Clear running streams with rocks sand and small rapids are best. Try to collect upstream of camps, trails and signs of other human or extensive animal activity.
* If forced to use muddy or cloudy water - prefilter or let it settle. Permit the big stuff to fall to the bottom and only filter the water after settling. If a prefilter is included with the filter - use it - if not improvise with a sock, microfiber cloth, or even a section of hosiery. Get out the big stuff prior to filtration and you will improve performance and prolong filter life.
* Always have a fresh spare filter. If your primary filter becomes cracked, torn or clogged - do not use it. Store your spare separate from the primary filter. For example - keep primary in your backpack, keep a spare in your partners backpack - that way if a bear runs off with your pack, you have a backup.
* Filter cannot remove salt from salt water. Do not use with Salt water.
