Trangia Westwind Simple Alcohol Camp Stove |
|
Trangia Westwind Simple Alcohol Camp Stove and Wind Screen Stand. 7 ounces light, stand folds flat, simple, reliable, compact, low cost. Sure you could make an alcohol stove out of an aluminum soda or beer can, but when you graduate from experimentation, get one of these tough, reliable units that will last forever.
One of the lightest weight alcohol stoves available. No frills stove from Trangia that includes the classic Trangia burner with an ultra-light compact stand. The stand is lightweight, rugged aluminum that breaks down into three separate pieces to store flat. Stand offers some windscreen protection for your flame if you position it properly. The complete stove and stand weighs just 7 ounces.
Light on weight, cheap price, but rich on features. The stove burner comes with a screwcap & rubber o-ring that permits you to store alcohol right in the stove itself. It also includes a simmering ring to adjust heat output. Those features are hard to find on any other alcohol stove.
This combination lets campers save weight and space on their outdoor adventures. Simplicity makes it good as a survival stove in your disaster preparedness kit.
3 fluid ounces of alcohol will burn for more than 25 minutes. It takes about 12-15 minutes (using 1 fluid ounce of alcohol) to boil 1 quart of water.
A complete set of operating instructions is included with the kit.
WARNING: Never burn this stove indoors. Only use denatured alcohol as fuel. Using white gas or other fuels will cause explosion and possible injury. Be sure flame is fully extinguished before re-fueling.
Tip: A ready source of fuel is a product called "Heet" (see additional pictures link above). It is used to protect fuel systems in automobiles. it is found at auto parts stores and in the auto parts aisles at Department Stores. The Yellow Bottle Heet is 99% methanol, which burns with a clean, blue flame, similar to that seen with most denatured alcohols. A 12 fluid ounce bottle currently costs around $2, and would be enough for 4-5 days. Try to avoid the RED HEET bottle - it is a different formulation with isopropyl alcohol which burns a yellow flame, lower temperature and tends to leave black residue on the stove and your pots and pans. It can be used in an absolute emergency, but try to get the YELLOW HEET. The HEET factory bottle is made for ONE TIME use. It is not suited to trail storage and measured pouring into a stove. Same great features as brand names like Vargo.
