Ultralight Portable Solar Charger Panel and Power Module. Ultralight hack (detailed below) permits you to modify this kit to get down to a lightweight pack weight of only 3.6 ounces for a solar charging panel. Backpackers and Campers love this ultralight solar charging solution that takes up very little space.
Harness the power of the sun to recharge your electronics in the field. Directly Charge USB cabled device and many phones such as your GPS or mobile phone from the panel (iPhone and Motorola Droid users -see special notes below). Or plug in via USB or adapters to many Motorola, Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung mobile and cell phones (list of adapters below) from the included compact Lithium Power Bank by night or on cloudy days.
This package features a high efficiency Solar Cell and an Ultra Slim Lithium Power Bank. Power Bank will charge in 4 hours of direct sunlight or in 2 hours via a USB port.

If you want to get really light, the protective case can be removed. Keep in mind that this hack voids all warranty. But it is simple. The solar panel slides easily out of the protective case. Work it slowly side to side and up - take care not to break off the USB adapter port. This leaves you with the bare minimum - an ultralight solar charger panel with an integrated USB female charging port, it weighs just 3.6 ounces (see photos in additional images above). Add your USB charging cable and you are ready. The standard package actually comes with a bubble wrap that can be used to protect the exposed panel during transport. Keep in mind that the panel is not flexible. Rough packing or impacts could crack the panel rendering it useless. Scratches on the solar surface will reduce efficiency. Also - there are some exposed solder contacts on the back. We covered them with a strip of electrical tape and it probably would not hurt to cover the exposed USB solder points as well. Special Notes: Some new devices are starting to query the USB port. For example the original Motorola Droid and some iPhone4Gs are expecting to be plugged into a computer USB port. Those devices may not recognize or accept power from this charging system. It is a known issue and there may be some aftermarket apps to "dumb down" the smartphones USB port, but we cannot be responsible for such modifications to the phones or cabling required to make it work. This is a low cost straight forward product and it is sold as is for charging the listed devices. Female to Female USB inline adapters may be required to interface this kit with devices not listed. Please look to local electronic stores to find them if you require such an adapter. |
