These are very popular - these sell out every week but we get scheduled regular shipments to replenish. If it says "Out of Stock" order anyway - that gets you in line - waits are never more than 7 days.
The DIY (Do It Yourself ) Trailblazer model features new NASA-derived nano filtration technology. These Rapid Pure drinking water filters leapfrog the competition. Purifies water by removing bacteria, viruses, cysts and other bad stuff. This is a best in class, game changing development in recreational camp, backpack and emergency water filtration.
Go ahead - check your current filter specifications, or competitive filters out there. Brand name water filters such as Katadyn, MSR, Aquamira, Playpus, Sawyer and others - reduce bacteria and cysts, but if viruses are suspected, they specifically instruct you treat filtered water with chemicals such as chlorine dioxide to make the water safe from viruses. Viruses are too small for conventional filters to get.
However, this new filter purifier technology outperforms all other recreational water filters with
documented Bacteria Removal at 99.9999 %, Virus Removal at 99.9999 %, and Cyst removal at 99.998%. Further, this new filter technology outperforms the competition with higher flow rates, longer filter life, and better affordability. Get that ? This does more for less money !
Read on as we provide supporting documentation, reports, descriptions, tips for use, even videos - to prove that this water should be in your backpack, camp, travel. and emergency disaster response kit. The UltraCeram technology employed offers submicron water filtration performance that will make water potable and safe to drink at a price anyone can afford.
How is the Ultralight Virus Filter Made, and How can I use this Drinking Water Filter?
This Rapid Pure DIY filter is a family of cartridge style pleated filters originally intended for Do it Yourself (DIY) Home Emergency use and for Missionary Use in 3rd World and developing countries. The UltraCeram pleats are contained in a cartridge made of FDA approved materials. The simple, sealed, pleated cartridge design with a threaded output tube is designed to be inserted through a hole in the bottom of a bucket. The output tube extends out the bottom and includes a hose barb for 3/8" (inside diameter) flexible vinyl tubing (tube not included). Untreated source water can be poured into the bucket, water pressure pushes water through the filter with clean water coming out the exit hose. No moving parts, no electricity, no pumping, no chemicals - simple as can be.
The simple, light weight design, high flow rates, and high capacity - lends this filter to applications outside the 3rd World:
Ultralight backpackers and campers will appreciate the light weight. We achieved our lightest drinking water filter carry weight ever with the 2.5" filter. The 2.5" filter weighs just 1.6 ounces. We installed a 3' length of 3/8" I.D. clear vinyl tubing (2.2 ounces). Total Weight: 3.8 ounces. We hung a 1 gallon bucket of source water from a tree, dropped filter in (it gets wet and heavy and sinks). Then by gently drawing on the end of the hose like a straw we started a siphon flow. The water flowed clean, clear and fast. 1 gallon was filtered in about a 3 minutes. So fast, so easy, no moving parts, nothing to break and so ultralight !
With that same filter we created an ultralight Water Filter Straw solution. We simply uses a shorter 10 inch section of 3/8" I.D. clear vinyl tubing to the hose barb. Then collect dirty water in a cup, drop the filter in and draw like you would with any straw. Flow is so great - it requires little effort. Total carry weight 2.5 ounces.
Emergency Disaster Preparedness Home, School and Office use - Earthquake kits, Bug out bags, Hurricane, Tornado, Natural Disaster kits. This filter is simple, intuitive, durable, and with the virus filtration - extremely effective. No expiration date - keep in a cool, dry, dark location and the materials will last for years. Use as a siphon from a bucket or install with nuts and washers for a more permanent high capacity solution.
What is the useful life capacity of these water filters ? Which Model Rapid Pure DIY should I purchase ?
Rapid Pure UltraCeram media has incredible filtering capacity and long life, as the numbers below will attest. This is because of the vast surface area inside the media.
However, here is where we expose an industry dirty secret. All water filter companies perform their "useful life" testing with ..... wait for it ......ordinary tap water. That's right, when a competitor claims a 700 Litre filter capacity life - that means it is expected to clog at about 700L (185 gallons) of filtering tap water - pretty weak. While this method of rating seems unfair, there has to be a baseline to provide meaningful comparison between vendors. Also - this kinda makes you suspect of ordinary tap water doesn't it ?
In real field use - actual filter life will depend mostly on the turbidity of water. How cloudy or muddy is it ? How dense are the contaminants ? Tip: When you collect your source water, let it settle before filtering. The large particulates will sink to the bottom if left in a bucket. The water will clear out substantially and, might resemble tap water in outward appearance. Decant to another bucket or filter from top to prolong filter life.
Another field situation that can affect filter life is dissolved solids. You might think that a stream emerging from a glacier would be pure and wonderful. However, glacial melt water is full of minerals and dissolved solids infused by the grinding of the massive glacier on the rock beneath - glacial melt water will clog filters fast.
All that being said -- Rapid Pure filters have a rated life of roughly 3750 gallons per inch of media. That is much greater than the competition - so get ready for some pretty heady capacity numbers.
There are 3 models of DIY Ultralight Water filters with varying capacities:
1. 2.5" High Cartidge (1.6 ounces dry weight) estimated capacity 9,370 gallons
2. 4.5" High Cartidge (2.0 ounces dry weight) estimated capacity 16,875 gallons
3. 6.5" High Cartidge (2.4 ounces dry weight) estimated capacity 24,375 gallons
Each is a cylinder with a 2" diameter. Each Rapid Pure DIY filter has an additional 2.5" threaded output tube with a hose barb at the tip that is sized for 3/8" Inside Diameter flexible vinyl tubing. Nuts and Washers are included for the threaded portion should you wish to deploy these as bucket filters.
What is the technology behind the Ultraceram Rapid Pure Water filter ?
Overview: RapidPure UltraCeram is a totally different filtration technology than filters that require that contaminants encounter a small pore that prevents it from passing. UltraCeram filters do not just capture contaminants to big to pass, the UltraCeram electropositive media atracts and retains viruses, cysts, and bacteria by electrical attraction. The electropositive fibrous media has high particle removal effciency as well as 50 to 250 times greater dirt-holding capacity than competitors. RapidPure UltraCeram flters are also infused with silver. Silver is a self sanitizing agent that kills bacteria, preventing growth of captured bacteria inside the filter.
Specific Technology: With UltraCeram, even if there is a “hole” or “pore” in the media that would seem big enough to let a virus or particle pass - it does not pass. There is an electropositive + charge to the RapidPure UltraCeram media that electrically atracts and bonds to viruses, bacteria, cysts and particles. Water molecules have 10 protons and 10 electrons so as a whole are neutral and pass freely through the media. Viruses contain DNA or RNA which is negatively charged and have an outer coating consisting of proteins made of amino acids which at normal water PH -- ionize to have a slight negative charge. The (positive) charge of the UltraCeram atracts the viruses’ (negative) charge and locks them in place in the RapidPure UltraCeram media. With UltraCeram about half the atoms of the fiber are on the surface of the fiber itself. At the atomic level, unique things can occur. Based on the crystaline properties of the mineral pseudoboehmite2, AIO(OH) active fibers are 2 mm x 250 mm in size. The small size of the AIO(OH) fibers allows RapidPure technology to operate on the atomic level.
The crystal structure of the mineral pseudoboehmite, AIO(OH) - is the active ingredient in UltraCeram. The bonds holding the crystal together “relax” when exposed to water. When the bonds relax, some of the electrical energy that was used to hold the mineral structure together radiates out about 1 micron in every direction from the fibers. This positive charge is what adsorbs contaminants having a negative charge as they pass through the pores. UltraCeram has been designed so the pores are 1.75 micron in size, thus the entire pore of the RapidPure UltraCeram flter media is energized by the charge generated. Effectively this creates an atomic level force field that diverts and retains any negatively charged particles (viruses, cysts, bacteria and more) like a magnet before they can pass.
Video Reviews of the Rapid Pure Filter Technology in Action:
Below are some videos showing the filter media in action. Note that some videos may be for other Rapid pure products (bags, inline filters, straws, etc.) but they all use the same UltraCeram Filter media. The video also tests Rapid Pure products side by side with competitors Katadyn Basecamp and Platypus Gravity Works.
How to Use and Care for your Rapid Pure DIY water filter:
By following a few simple steps you can prolong the life of your filter, and assure best performance and safety from the filtered water:
* Keep the output area clean. When not in use a bit of cellophane or plastic secured with a rubber band can help.
* When not in use, let the filter dry. A light breeze, bit of sun, or even the kitchen counter for a short time should dry it out. Never store filters wet - that could encourage algae or mold growth.
* Collect the best source water possible. Clear running streams with rocks sand and small rapids are best. Try to collect upstream of camps, trails and signs of other human activity.
* If forced to use muddy or cloudy water - prefilter or settle - let the big stuff fall to the bottom and only filter the water after settling. If a prefilter is included with the filter - use it - if not improvise with a sock, microfiber cloth, or even a section of hosiery. Get out the big stuff prior to filtration and you will improve performance and prolong filter life.
* Always have a fresh spare filter. If your primary filter becomes cracked, torn or clogged - do not use it. Store your spare separate from the primary filter. For example - keep primary in your backpack, keep a spare in your partners backpack - that way if a bear runs off with your pack, you have a backup.
* Filter cannot remove salt from salt water. Do not use with Salt water.

|Reading about the technology - this one gets viruses by attracting them to the filter fibers by an electrical charge - sheer genius. I tested mine with a hose and siphon setup as discussed on the web page. Flows fast and clean. I am amazed at the simplicity and have added one to my emergency preparedness / earthquake response kit. My plan is gathering surface water at a nearby lake and filtering so this fits the bill.
With the virus filtering capability I wont have to worry if the lake has people bathing, wading or otherwise putting pressure on the resource after the disaster.|
