Wireless Remote Motion Sensing Alarm for Camp and Tent |
Wireless Remote Motion Sensing Alarm for Camp and Tent, RV, Home or Hotel.
Total Kit (remote and receiver) weight WITH BATTERIES is 16 ounces.
Product features a Compact base unit (4.5" x 3.5" X 1.5") unit that sounds an alert tone when motion is detected by the wireless remote unit (4" X 2" X 2"). You can control the volume of the pleasant yet noticeable chime alert. Select your choice of High or Low volume chime. Chime is a Hi Low beep similar to Ding Dong, Ding Dong, Ding Dong (3 times as motion is detected. If motion stops, it resets. As soon as motion continues, it chimes again.
The base will let you know if people, or animals (bear, moose, raccoons, etc.) are visiting your campsite or nearby area. YOU know something is in range. Works day or night.
Provides added security to your camping trip - know when something is moving about camp.
Both the Weather Resistant Passive Infrared Sensor and the base are battery operated. The motion sensor communicates wirelessly with the base up to 300 feet. It will cover a 20 degree swath and detect motion (infrared heat sensing) up to 30 feet away.
You can take it anywhere and position it to monitor in almost any direction or angle. For example, set the wireless motion sensor unit on a rock and aim at your tent. Take the base into your tent, turn it on, set volume and go to sleep. You will be alerted to motion in your camp. Or, place the sensor 150' up the trail to know when someone is coming down the main trail (max range is 400 feet in clear open conditions).

Use Notes, Tips & Tricks:
Remote Unit is Weather resistant with O-ring battery seal. However you can extend its life in wet climates by sheltering it from direct rain. Motion detection also works through clear plastic zip lock bags - another way to protect it in camp.
The main Alarm unit has 2 levels LOW and HIGH. The low is not stealth, people outside your tent would be able to hear it. You can lower the volume further by use of DUCT tape of the speaker and putting it under a pillow for stealthier alarms.
It is important at power up to install the 9V battery in the remote sensor FIRST, aim it, let it settle for 60 seconds before powering up the base. Otherwise you may get excessive false alarms.
Remove batteries when travelling, or not in use to prolong life. This is especially important in the remote sensor which is in continuous ON mode with batteries installed.
This system detects heat. Falling branches, inanimate objects thrown across its path will not cause alarms. Storm winds and hard rain may cause alarms due to fluctuations in heat/cold. Snakes, reptiles, and very small rodents do not set it off. Animals as large as raccoons, skunks, badgers, rabbits, deer, bear, humans and larger will cause it to alarm. Vehicles, motorcycles, snow mobiles all have a heat profile that will set it off. Aiming it to your camp fire, camp stove, or other heat source, will also cause alarms so use care when positioning the unit.
The hanging port on the back of the sensor hands nicely on a simple 6D or 4D size box nail head
The package says "400 foot range" between remote sensor and base unit. However our testing showed a maximum of 300 feet over open pavement and this range was reduced to 100- 150 feet in wooded areas.
The remote sensor will NOT sense movement through glass. We tested at the office, in car, and at home through modern energy saving glass, which seems to block the IR. Do not expect it to work through windows.
The alarm signal does travel through walls, glass, and tents so you will get the alarm beep if the main receiver unit is indoors.
Small Phillips blade (like eyeglass repair screwdriver) is needed to change 9V battery in sensor so be sure to have one in your field kit.
Main Receiver unit is equipped with a DC 4.5V input with + polarity inner, - polarity outer. You may be able to source and AC converter and tip at your local Radio Shack or electronics store. This would permit long term home use as a driveway alarm or similar monitor.
When motion is detected, the remote sensor will flash a red LED light. If you do not want the remote sensor to be detected, put a small bit of electrical tape over the LED. While not recommended by the manufacturer, and a violation of warranty terms, it is possible to paint the plastic body of the sensor with a camo spray paint for further stealth. Do not paint the clear translucent window as this will render the product inoperable.
During testing, a person walking into the field will cause an alarm. If the person then holds completely still, the alarm will stop. A slight movement of a hand or twitch of a finger - will not cause an alarm. Lifting a leg, raising an arm or moving a few inches left or right will cause an additional alarm.
Every unit is tested in our warehouse before shipment.
