Today we’re going to talk about the Tac-Bar Ready to Eat Tactical Food Rations
The Tac-Bar Tactical Food Rations offers you a whole lot of calories in a compact pouch. The pouches are stored inside a plastic ammo crate that has been designed for easy transportation.
Inside you will find 5 2500 calorie bars that have been scored in thirds (one for each meal). Each third is just shy of 840 calories. There are also some water purification tablets included. The bars are stored in thick mylar packaging that is pretty strong – this packaging could be used to gather water once you’ve eaten your food.
They also give you some other survival supplies like a ferrocerium fire starter (it’s actually quite good), a button compass, a tea candle, a single edged razor blade, plastic whistle, mylar emergency blanket, a monofilament fishing line and a few weighted hooks and lures.
I would probably ditch the plastic container and put the food into my tactical backpack instead. Well unless you want to store it in the truck, boat, car or something else. IF you do I’d just keep it in the original container.
So like I said the pack comes with 10 Aquatab 49mg Tablets. These can be used to purify about 50 liters of water. So if you’re stuck and can’t find any clean water – these will literally be a life saver.
The bars are fortified with vitamins and minerals so they offer you tonnes of nutritional value. Which is exactly what you need in a survival situation where you’ll be more active, run down and prone to injuries.
The bars are similar to the crumbly texture you’d find in a pie. It’s not that bad to be honest, in fact the taste is actually quite nice. It’s very sweet and you can taste a faint vanilla or citrus flavour. Some have commented that they notice more of a coconut flavour but hey it does taste like dry cardboard so its a win.
This new formula doesn’t contain as much sugar as the old one.
Honestly review on flavour? This is by far the best tasting and calorie dense ration pack i’ve ever tried before.
At a very minimum these packs have a shelf life of 5 years, however if you store them in a cool dry place, you will find them lasting longer than 5.
Remember I said you can use the packaging for collecting water? Well the Mylar packaging has a thickness of 110 microns which is the strongest around. Seriously, you may need to use a knife just to open these.
The pouches are not resealable either, so you may want to carry some of your own resealable bags with you.
These are a flameless ration too.
Well, the bullet points below will give you an idea on how I rate this product:
